MOKKA MILCH EIS BAR, A MONUMENT AWAKENS TO LIFE
Karl-Marx-Allee 35 is an architectural gem that tells the story of Berlin's vibrant history. Built in 1961/62 according to the visionary plans of Josef Kaiser and Walter Franek, the elegant pavilion building, together with Café Moskau and Kino International, forms an ensemble that is considered a tribute to European modernism—a tangible testament to the political "Khrushchev Thaw" after Stalin's death.
As the celebrated Mokka Milch und Eisbar, the house was an integral part of social life in the capital of the GDR and a popular meeting place for youth, immortalized by Thomas Natschinski's hit song 'Mokka-Milch-Eisbar'.
After extensive monument-conserving restoration, Karl-Marx-Allee 35 is now ready once again to be filled with new generations and new stories.
NOT JUST A HOUSE IN THE CENTER, BUT A PIECE OF THE CITY
Located within walking distance of Alexanderplatz and amidst the famous ensemble of Kino International, Bar Babette, and Café Moskau, Mokka Milch Eis Bar stands as one of the architectural highlights in the heart of Berlin, around which urban life unfolds. Karl-Marx-Allee, once the grand boulevard of East Berlin, connects cultural and commercial icons from Frankfurter Tor to Alexanderplatz.
Today, it presents itself as a traffic-calmed area with wide bicycle lanes and ample greenery, excellently integrated into the public transport network at every point. In the coming years, the model quarter "Haus der Statistik" and six new pavilions will further densify the area around Mokka Milch Eis Bar culturally. An exciting new neighborhood with culture, workplaces, and gastronomy is emerging.
AMENITIES AS GOOD AS NEW, AS BEAUTIFUL AS BEFORE
The charming building of Mokka Milch Eis Bar is being adapted for versatile, innovative uses. Here, a communicative workplace is being created—sustainable and barrier-free. The historic structure is being meticulously restored and preserved in close consultation with monument protection. The familiar ceramic facade, iconic lettering, and elegant awnings of Mokka Milch Eis Bar are being repaired or restored.
State-of-the-art technical equipment including broadband cabling, elevators, and efficient air conditioning are naturally available in the new Karl-Marx-Allee 35. The best part: highly insulating glass windows, external sun protection, heat exchangers, and night cooling ensure that the building will operate completely emission-neutral in the future: as good as new, as beautiful as before.
